Sewer Care Brochure
Misuse of the sewers damages the pumps and causes issues at the treatment plant. Just because a product says it is "flushable" doesn't mean it should be flushed. Remember the following catch phrase to keep flushable and disposable materials out of the sewer system. The three “Ps” – pee, poop and paper (toilet paper) – is all that should be flushed down the toilet. Nothing else goes in there.
Grease buildup in the lift stations is a major problem in certain areas. Be aware that grease poured down the drain will quickly cool and solidify causing a buildup that clogs the sewer lines and lift station pumps. Help keep the sewer lines clear by allowing frying pans to cool, removing grease with paper towel, and throwing the paper tower in a trash receptacle.
The district tries to keep sewer rates low but the damage caused by flushing baby wipes and "flushable" wipes that do not break down is causing the district to have to spend way more for maintenance in replacement of expensive pumps and man hours to monitor and clear the clogs. Please only flush toilet paper!
